Platelet and plasma are two essential components of human blood that play a vital role in maintaining overall health and supporting life-saving medical processes. Both elements have distinct functions but often work together in healing, recovery, and biological protection.

Platelets, also known as thrombocytes, are small cell fragments in the blood that are primarily responsible for clotting. When a person experiences an injury, platelets quickly move to the affected area and form a plug to stop bleeding. They also release growth factors that help in tissue repair and wound healing. In hemodialysis, the patient’s blood is circulated through an external machine called a dialyzer, often referred to as an artificial kidney.
